While doing a paying art project in winter 2006, I put up a random page from the 1998-99 Chrusher comic series “RaYzor’s Edge” as a bumper/teaser for my EXTREMELY PUNY web audience. The page, as you can see, was chosen because it featured a few hot chicks that were observing something from the woods – freshly digitally colored in 2006. Although one of my earliest coloring efforts, and I note a few places where I could color it better now, it’s still pretty eye-catching. And – in hindsight as well – when I drew it, I should have not made the brunette’s boobs so plastic/fake-titty looking, haha.
Slightly off-topic rant time:
OK, so I’m not the world’s greatest artist. Hard to rate art, as it is highly subjective to each person’s artistic tastes. I can safely say that I am somewhere between the best and worst artist in the world, right?
Now, in terms of web comics, I do feel that I am in the upper echelon. I mean, probably 80-90% of them are done by people who can’t draw, think they’re funny, and make a crudely-drawn gag scribble… something that I would’ve made better when I was in Elementary school (and I can prove it… a lil’ something called… “Mr. Butts”… don’t make me break out the scanner and do it, haha).
OK, now, around the same time that I uploaded this artwork, I was reminded of the the time I introduced my comics to the fellow free-hosted webcartoonists at ComicGenesis:

I mean… seriously? Some dude that can’t even out-draw the average teenage art student and does an intolerably boring and yucky-looking strip, and does it a LOT, apparently enough to sell print compilations, evidently…. puts MY art style down? Busy? Too many thin lines? Need to take art classes? I mean… really? Seriously? When he has the art skills of a drugged-up, bitch-slapped 12-year old transgendered girl/boy? It reminds me of Roger Ebert, an overrated, jaded, biased jerk who critiques movies (who, on a weekly basis, slams what millions of intelligent people think are pretty good movies, mind you) when he himself made one of the worst movies in the history of all-time (Valley of the Dolls 2 or something like that?)?
We are officially in a postmodern, deconstructionist society. Up is down, left is right, right is wrong, everything note-worthy is torn down and only the dregs of society are praised. And, someone who should get a new hobby/pastime/job critiques someone who did better work when he did when the person he’s critiquing was 10.
Yet, he probably has more fans/readers than I do.
*Sigh*
We’re all f***ed.
