To this day I am quite proud that I won a handful of High School Newspaper awards for my comics. This one actually won 2nd Place overall for an annual award for editorial cartoons for High Schools run by the Syracuse Newspapers.
I missed the ceremony (which took place in an auditorium that housed hundreds of people), but my teacher went and said when they put my cartoon up on the screen it got, "Oohs and Aahs." 1st place then went up after and got silence. It was clearly inferior (I believe I saw it and it looked terrible and may have not had a point). The teacher thought the same thing I did: I won 1st place two years in a row, so they probably wanted to give it to somebody else.
